A custom made tribal chess set, cold cast in gypsum and finished in an aged brown and antique gold metallic effect. This ethnic chess set is a great example of traditional African chess making. The chess set pieces have a lot of the hand carved markings associated with tools used to shape them. The original chess pieces were carved in stone and then treated using local pigments. Like other similar sets of its type These chess sets were popular in the 60’s 70’s and were made in Africa to be sold in the tourist markets and bazaars of Egypt, and from there onward to the rest of the world. The king stands at just over 10.5 cm tall with a 2.5 cm base and the pawns are 4.5 cm tall with a 2cm base making this a nice sized set to play with that would be as comfortable on a 45 cm board as it would a 35 cm one.
